JEWELRY CARE + REPAIRS
Congratulations on your new jewels! Every Tytin Jewelry piece is handcrafted in Chicago with love and longevity in mind. I take pride in ensuring every piece is created with the utmost care and quality so that it may be passed down for generations or unearthed intact centuries later. That being said, a lot of its longevity depends on your lifestyle. I recommend taking your jewels off when doing such activities as showering, washing the dishes, jumping in the ocean, operating tough machinery, or anything that involves flailing your hands and/or body near and around hard surfaces.
Here are some additional tips to help keep your jewelry looking fresh, clean and safe!
FOR ALL TYTIN JEWELS
Wiping your jewelry with our included polishing cloth can help maintain your jewelry’s luster and keep it clean from daily use. For a deeper clean, fill a bowl with warm water and a little dish washing soap. I recommend Dawn Dish Soap in Original Scent (the blue one). Soak your jewelry for a few minutes and then scrub it gently with a soft toothbrush. The bristles of the toothbrush will help you to get into any small crevices. Rinse in water and pat dry with a soft cloth. It’s best to use a cloth that doesn’t have any loose threads that could get stuck in prongs. An old t-shirt is a great option for this.
Silver develops a natural tarnish or blackening over time when exposed to oxygen and moisture. It is completely natural and harmless. The best way to prevent tarnishing is to actually wear your silver jewelry more often! The oils from your skin can help prevent it. For when you’re not wearing them though, store your silver pieces in an airtight container or baggie (like a ziplock bag). And for extra prevention, you can throw in a little silica gel packet. If your silver jewelry does tarnish, refer above for cleaning methods.
GOLD, GEMS + DIAMONDS
Sometimes 14k gold can tarnish slightly but nothing as severe as silver. If it does, refer above for cleaning methods. If you’re wanting a super deep clean, you can always visit a reputable jewelry store and ask them to clean it in an ultrasonic. There are also small at-home ultrasonics that you can purchase at an affordable price if you’re wanting to keep things ultra sparkly more often.
However, if your piece contains any gems besides diamonds, I would recommend reaching out before putting it in the ultrasonic. Certain gems such as opals, tanzanites, and emeralds are more delicate than diamonds so should not be put into the ultrasonic. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to reach out!
